Title: Extractable Phosphorous in Relation to Inorganic Forms of Phosphate in Calcareous Soils.

Abstract: The aim of this paper was to study the fractionations of the inorganic forms of phosphates (Ca, Mg-P, Al-P and Fe-P) and mobile phosphorous in soils. For this purpose, twelve representative soils samples from Saudi Arabia were selected. These soils differ in their physical and chemical properties. The obtained results showed that the forms of inorganic phosphates differ according to the soil types. However, Ca, Mg-P were most dominant among the phosphate fractions. Considering the correlation between the different forms of phosphates and the extracted amounts using four different solvents and biological phosphorous ( using barley plants ), it appeared that the best solvent was (1% (NH4)2SO4 + 0.25% (NH4)2MO4); since it gave the highest correlation. It was concluded that this solvent is the best solution for extracting the available P for plants in the soils under study.
