Title: Agricultural Land Productivity Levels in Developing Countries and Their Determinants

Abstract: Th e main objectives of this study are: (1) to classify developing countries according to their agricultural land productivity; and (2) to identify the main determinants of the agricultural land productivity and their relative importance. Secondary data of the FAO, UNESCO, and World Bank are used. Seventy developing countries which represent 40% of the world's total developing countries are included. According to the objective of this study, the data of these countries are classified into two groups. The first, includes 29 countries with mixed perennial crops, fruits, vegetables, and animal production practices. The Second, includes 41 countries, where cereals crops and animal production were the main production practices. Statistical analysis was used in describing and testing the relationship between the variables. Means, SD, zero-order correlation, and stepwise multiple regression techniques were the tools of analysis. The results showed that agricultural intensity, kind of cultivated crops, and population pressure, all have explained 87% of the total variance in land productivity of the first group. Meanwhile, the available capital, kind of cultivated crops, agricultural labor force, and human productivity were the main determinants of land productivity for the second group. They explained 66% of the total variance in land productivity. Moreover, the study suggests that 67% of the countries of the first group, and 88% of the countries of the second group need more efforts to raise their productivity levels
