Abstract: Ageing could be described as the total of time-related alterations in structure and function of the individual resulting in the decrease of its capacity to survive (Clarke and Rockstein 1964). In insects, such changes have been investigated at the ultrastructural level in the heart muscles (Burch et al. 1970), flight muscles (Takahashi et al. 1970, Johnson and Rowely 1972, Davies 1975), the venom gland of bees (Owen and Bridges 1976), the midgut cells (Davies and King 1977) and fat body (Sohal 1973, Al-Khalifa 1984). The present study investigates the ultrastructural changes associated with the ageing process on the oviduct cells of the granary weevil S. granarius.
