| Abstract: | The applications of horizontal wells in Saudi Arabian oil fields are reviewed. Horizontal wells have been used to increase productivity in both offshore fields (Berri, Marjan, Zuluf, Safaniya) and onshore fields (Ghawar, Abqaiq). The benefits of horizontal wells are outlined: improved well production, reduced number of wells, reduced water and gas handling costs, reduced drilling, flowline and facilities costs, and controlled well and reservoir performance problems. |
