Title: Infection control in dental environment: Patient Evaluation

Abstract: A survey was conducted on 300 patients treated the College of Dentistry, King Saud University to determine and evaluate their medical history. Patient’s data including medical history, sex and age were obtained from the patients records. The results demonstrated that patient's age range was 5-69 years (mean- 32.7 years) 172 were males (57.3%) and 128 were females (42.7%). and sixteen different types of medical illnesses were determined. Of 300 patient records, 10 patients (3.4%) had infectious diseases, 34 patients (11.4%) had systemic diseases, 46 patients (15.2%) were immune compromised patients, and the remaining 210 patients (70.0%) were healthy. it was concluded that each patient must be considered potentially infectious. and infection control measures as well as universal precautions should be applied for all patients.
