| Abstract: | This paper presents an analysis for the transient performance of a three phase induction motor operated from a single-phase supply via phase modifier capacitor inserted with stator phases. The analysis is performed using the instantaneous symmetrical components approach along with sequence operational equivalent circuits of the motor. It has been shown that the choice of phase balancer condenser should be decided upon by the steady state performance levels as well as steady state double frequency torque pulsations. It was concluded that there exists a value of the capacitor that yields minimum value of torque pulsations, thus adding a new criterion for capacitor selection. |
