Abstract: A method is described for the determination of aztreonam (I) on its own, in the presence of its degradation (alkaline hydrolysis) product (II) and in a parenteral formulation containing L-arginine (III). Sample or standard soln. (prep. described) were analysed by HPLC on a column (30 cm × 4 mm) of MCH-10 with 0.2M-phosphate buffer (pH 6) - methanol (19:1) as mobile phase (2 ml min-1) and detection at 254 nm. The calibration graph (peak area vs. concn.) was rectilinear from 10 to 50 µg ml-1 of I, and down to 5 µg ml-1 of I could be detected. Mean recoveries of I from soln., parenteral formulation and mixtures with II were 100.5, 100.7 and 100.4%, respectively. The mean recovery of III determined in the parenteral formulation by non-aq. titration with HClO4 was 99%
