Title: Effect of Intraperitoneal Administration of L-Thyroxine on Growth and Food Conversion Efficiency in Oreochromis niloticus

Abstract: L-Thyroxine (T4) was administered intraperitoneally on a weekly basis to juvenile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) at doses of 0.25,0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 jLg/g body weight for eight weeks. Fish injected with 0.5 and 1.0 jLg/g of T4 grew significantly faster than the controls. However, the highest dose of T4 resulted in arrested growth. The effect of T4 on hepato-, reno-, crania-, and viscerosomatic indices was variable. The results are discussed in the light of existing reports in the literature.
