Abstract

This is a translated chapter of The Cambridge Encyclopedia of Arabic Literature. It is part of an ambitious project sponsored by the Literary Club in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It assigned for translation into Arabic various chapters of the Encyclopedia to different scholars. The chapter named “The Arabic Drama” speaks of its earliest development in different parts of the Arab world especially in Egypt and the Eastern Mediterranean countries.
