Abstract: Two simple, rapid and accurate Spectrophotometric methods are performed for the determination of gabapentin. The first method is based on the reactibn of the primary amino group of gabapentin withninhydrin reagent in a water bath in the presence of sodium hydroxide to yield a_bluish violet product which absorbs maximally at 566 nm. Beer's law is obeyed in the concentration range 8-50µgml-1 of gabapentin. The second method depends on the reaction of gabapentin with l,2-naphthoquinone-4-sodium sulphonate in boiling water Bath in presence of sodium hydroxide to form a brown colored product.measureable at 540 nm. The absobance is proportional to gabapentin concentrationin the range 5-25 µgml-1. The optimum experimentalparamelers for both reactions have been studied. Statistical analysis of the results has been carried out revealing high accuracy and good precision.Thesuggeded procedures could be used forthe determination of gabapenlin in pharmaceutical capsules.
