| Abstract: | In this paper the hydrodynamic properties of bubble columns is studied by contemporary
analysis tools such as the fractal and chaos methods. These tools were applied widely on
pressure signals in fluidized beds and bubble columns. In this work the tools are applied to the acoustic sound signals generated in bubble columns using air-water system in the presence of coalescence and non-coalescence agents. It was found that fractal analysis represented by the Hurst exponent was useful to unfold the sparger effect on the bubble distribution, the first regime transition point, and the dominant frequency in the signal. The chaos method is characterized by the correlation dimension was found helpful to determine the regime transition points and reveal the effect of surfactant solutions on the flow pattern. |
