Abstract: Two feeding trials were carried out using iso-nitrogenous and iso-caloric diets containing 0, 10 and 20% Salicornia meal (SM) in complete diets. In trial 1, digestibility coefficients, nutritive values, nitrogen, and mineral balances were determined using four Najdi rams weighing about 43 kg per diet. Increasing the SM level lead to insignificant decrease in digestibility coefficients of DM, OM, EE and NFE, whereas CP and CF digestibility significantly (P<0.05) decreased. The TDN values were decreased insignificant, while DCP and nitrogen balance were decreased (P<0.05) significantly. Mineral balance of Na, K, Mg and Ca was not significant. Nitrogen and P balances were decreased (P<0.05) with increasing SM level. In trial 2, twenty seven Najdi male lambs weighing about 22.7 kg were equally allotted to 3 dietary groups (0, 10 and 20% SM) and fed individually for 100 days ad libitum to study the effect of increasing SM levels on their growth performance and carcass characteristics. Average daily gain was 187.4, 176.4 and 180.2 g/h/day, feed conversion ratio was 4.5, 4.46 and 4.06 kg TDN/kg gain, respectively, the differences were not significant. Increased SM level significantly increased (P<0.05) water consumed per kg DMI. Dressing percentages were 47.9, 49.5 and 47.8% for sheep fed on diets contained 0, 10 and 20% SM diets, respectively. These results concluded that Salicornia meal could be incorporated into the diets for growing lambs up to 20% of the whole diet without adverse effects.
