Title: Soil and Root Fungi Associated with Some Agricultural Crops in Onayzah Governorate ( Gasseem, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia )

Abstract: Five hundred and sixty samples were collected from 19 agricultural fields in Onayzah governorate of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia during the winter season 1416/1417 H ( 1995/1996 ). 280 of these samples were from infected roots and the other 280 were rhizosphere soil samples adjacent to roots of 280 different field and horticultural crops. Results showed that 13 fungal genera were reported from these samples. Fusarium spp. was the most frequent fungus followed by Alternaria spp. Where as A. triticina, A. alternata, F. graminearum , H. sativum, S. botryosum and R. solani, were recorded on field crops, Fusarium spp., R. solani and Macrophomina phaseolina were recorded on vegetable crops and R. solani, C. gloesporiodes, Pythium spp., Theilaviopsis paradoxa, and Phoma spp. were recorded on fruit crops. Gliocladium fungi was isolated for the first time in the Kingdom, from soil around apple roots.
