Title: Fungi Associated With Root rot and Seeds of Two Genera of Fodder Legume, of Lathyrus spp., and Vicia spp. Cultivated in the Agriculture Research and Experimental Station at Dirab

Abstract: Tissue planting method was used for isolation of fungi from fodder legume plants showing root rot symptoms of natural infection in the field at Dirab area. The isolated fungi were purified and identified to genus or species as Alternaria alternata, Helminthosporium spp., Fusarium spp. Pythium spp., and Rhizoctonia solani. The percentages of R. solani associated with these cultivars as recorded from the isolation plates were 61 % and 5 % on Vicia villosa and V. narbonensis respectively. Fungi associated with seeds of ten cultivars of fodder legumes belonging to Lathyrus spp., and Vicia spp. were also isolated by Agar Plating Method at the rate of 100 seeds / cultivar. Fungi associated with seeds were purified and identified as Alternaria alternata, Cladosporium herbarum, Helminthosporium spp., Fusarium spp., and Rhizoctonia solani. The results indicated that seeds of only four out of the ten tested cultivars were infected by R. solani. The percentage of infection was 2 % in V. sativus and 6 % in seeds of other three cultivars. However, seeds of the rest of the cultivars were found to be free from this fungus.
