Title: Pathogencity and Reproduction of Heterodera avenae on Wheat as Influenced by Nematode Initial Density

Abstract: Wheat seeds ( cv. Yocora Rojo ) were sown in clay pots containing sandy loam soil infested with different inoculum levels of the cereal cyst nematode : 0.12, 0.25, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0 cysts / cm soil. Plants in pots were left outdoor throughout the wheat growing season. At harvest, plant yield and growth parameters were significantly reduced by nematode infection even at the lowest inoculum level. These plant reductions increased as inoculum levels were increased. Final nematode density was determined at harvest and reproduction factor ( RF ) was calculated. Values of reproduction factor ranged from 1.6 to 3.32 at inoculum levels of 2.0 and 0.12 cysts / cm soil, respectively. This study shows that wheat ( cv. Yocora Rojo ) is very susceptible to damage and suitable for reproduction of H. avenae.
